- Video coding: Basic concepts, overview of standards
- IP-based media delivery: Protocol stack, video-specific considerations, applications, e.g., IPTV, Adaptive Streaming
- Specific video formats: UHD (Ultra High Definition), HDR (High Dynamic Range), HFR (High Framerate), 3D/ stereoscopic video, 360°/ omnidirectional video, video virtual reality
- Visual perception: Fundamentals, acuity, contrast, color, visual saliency, quality evaluation
Objective
Upon successful completion of the course, the students are able
- to understand current video technologies as well as IP-based video communication and explain the essential features of the individual technologies.
- to analyze and compare video systems with regard to their characteristics and evaluate them for practical use.
- to assemble and optimize exemplary video systems from the necessary components.
- to analyze the impact of technical parameters on the quality perceived by users.
