Research Topic

My research focuses on quality and quality of experience (QoE) analysis and evaluation methods for multi-party speech communication in immersive telepresence systems, realized for example in social virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR). In particular, system factors influencing experience, social presence perception and audiovisual plausibility in such systems are investigated. Beyond questionnaire-based assessment, a strong focus lies on behavior analysis (individual and interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal) to determine behavioral indicators for indirect assessment. This includes signal analysis of conversational voice recordings, for example for assessment of prosodics features and turn-taking dynamics. Beyond quality and behavioral evaluation, the research aims to provide methodological contributions to MR communication analysis and its comparison with face-to-face scenarios.
